We left the MOTY results up so you can compare what we thought to what you thought. It's good to know that we can agree on the GSX-R1000, which won by 159-votes. The Victory Vegas and the Honda CBR600RR had quite a battle for 2nd place. A battle that was won by only 5 votes-which highlights the importance of each vote.

Motorcyclist Magazine 2003 MOTY Award Winners

The 2003 MOTY awards were held last Friday night at the beautiful Highlands Inn in Carmel, California, and hosted by the Motorcyclist editorial and sales staff. The Motorcyclist staff chose what it feels are the most significant motorcycles of the season, and features them in a special section of the September 2003 issue.

The 2003 Motorcycle of the Year award was presented to the Suzuki GSX-R1000 for its complete dominance of the open-class sportbike category. Nominees included the following: Aprilia's Tuono, BMW's Rockster, Ducati's Multistrada, Ducati's 999, Honda's CBR600RR, Kawasaki ZX-6R, Suzuki's SV650, Victory's Vegas and Yamaha's YZF-R6.

Randy Mamola, who delivered his acceptance speech via video, was awarded Motorcyclist of the Year honors and took home the Greg McQuide Memorial trophy. Honda's CBR600RR was deemed Sportbike of the Year, Victory's Vegas named Cruiser of the Year, and Yamaha's FJR1300 Tourer of the Year. Yamaha's FZ1 was awarded Best Naked Bike, and Suzuki's SV650 was honored as Best Bang for the Buck bike.
