Below-decks, the CX occupied space among damp sails, damp ropes and our wet foul-weather gear in the forward cabin of our 31-foot wooden boat. The boat leaked everywhere. Whenever waves broke across the decks, saltwater dripped all over the bike. Each time the bilges overflowed, seawater flooded the engine and left it covered in layers of sea-salt crystals.
