2005 Vento Triton Review

The Vento line of scooters and motorcycles were introduced to the market in San Diego, California in 1996, with manufacturing facilities located in Mexico. A short time later, Vento relocated plants to Laredo, Texas, in order to market an ""American-made"" product. By 2008, Vento joined several other motorcycle companies in bankruptcy. The Triton 50cc scooter is a carryover model for the 2005 model year.

The storage is not bad, with an under-seat storage area, a small dash compartment, and a helmet storage area – all of which are lockable. Digital instrumentation includes a speedometer with trip reset, a fuel gauge, and an optional alarm system. The floorboards are located for both driver and passenger. The bodywork is lightweight plastic with upper fairing and front and rear fenders supported on a steel frame. Braking is supplied by a front disc brake and rear drum brake. The 50 cc engine is carbureted and air-cooled. Start-up is a breeze with the electric-start option. There is a very cheaply-built kick-start, which should be used only for emergencies, as its gears strip very easily.

Tubeless aluminum wheels finish out the 4.9-horsepower carbureted 49 cc scooter. The paint schemes for these scooters come in combinations of Graphite and Candy Red, Atomic Blue, and Yellow and Graphite on the Wild Mustang paint scheme. The sporty styling is fun for the average beginner at any college campus. The CVT makes shifting a thing of the past, awarding the Triton one more mark in its favor for the novice rider.

At 27.2 inches wide, 74.4 inches long, and 50.8 inches tall, parking is a breeze wherever you decide to ride. You can ride two-up on the vinyl seating, which sits at 29.1 inches tall. Unsurprisingly, the power will drop; and at a mere 50 cc, don't expect more than 35 miles per hour, wherever you ride. Considering its unimpressive power, the Triton is definitely a campus or about-town, urban shopper ride.
