2010 Schwinn Newport Review

Intro

With its European styling, the 2010 Schwinn Newport makes a grand entrance into the Schwinn scooter 150 class. Choose from the black or beige paint lineup and add a few accessories, and you have the perfect town and country scooter.

At 71.3 inches in length and just 27.2 inches wide, this lightweight scooter is a good choice for the get-around-town rider. With only the locking under–seat storage to stow belongings, the optional cargo rack and top box make a welcome addition to this scooter. Parking is easy with this just under 200-pound scooter's center-stand. Seating is a two-up vinyl type, with well-placed foot rests for the passenger and footboards for the driver.

Reaching speeds of up to 65 miles per hour (depending on the weight of the driver) the scooter is everything a rider could want for a scooter class ride. The transmission is an automatic continuously variable (CVT) type and eliminates the need for shifting. Instrumentation is simple, consisting of a speedometer, a fuel gauge, light buttons for headlights, and the ignition. Ignition is an electric and kicker type for those emergencies when the battery has died.

The Schwinn Newport's engine is powered by a 150 cc, single cylinder, four-stroke, SOHC, air-cooled power-plant. Its gets fairly good fuel ratings with about 85 miles per gallon, combined. It does require premium fuel, so be aware that filling up the gallon-and-a-half tank is going to set you back 25 cents more than the average scooter. However, even the most budget-conscience riders should be able to live with that. Schwinn claims this scooter has ""More power for the wide open spaces, more wide open space for you."" And since its suspension is smooth with adequate power, it should be able to handle open country roads as well as city stop-and-go traffic, making this a good choice in scooters.
