2010 Piaggio Fly Review

Intro

Manufactured in Italy since 2005, the Piaggio Fly is a 50cc scooter. It is comprised of a steel frame with plastic bodyworks, including front and rear fenders, front faring, floorboards, and side covers, all of which sit atop 12-inch aluminum wheels with tubeless tires. The sporty looks of this scooter more than make of up for the lack of horsepower. The air-cooled 49cc engine is rated at 4.2 bhp and performance is pretty much what one would expect out of an Italian scooter. Reaching average speeds of 35 mph, tinkering and performance additions have brought that up to 50, but still, do not expect more than an about-town ride from this scooter.

Plenty of storage is available on the 2010 Piaggio Fly, with room for two helmets, a lockable under-seat package compartment, and a small dash box. It has both digital and analog instrumentation which includes a speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature warning light, and high/low-beam light. The two-up vinyl seats are perched at a height of 30.9 inches, but because the floorboards are comfortably placed, it isn""t too much of strain.

The Continuously Variable (CVT) transmission eliminates the need to learn how to operate a clutch. It is forced air-cooled, so check its oil occasionally and fill its 1.9-gallon fuel tank up with premium gasoline (not the regular you""re used to with the Chinese manufactured scooters), and you""re ready to go run errands. In business since 1946, Piaggio puts care into their scooters. This is the perfect run-around transportation for campus riders or urban shoppers.
