2009 Piaggio BV Review

Intro

The 2009 Piaggio BV is a top-level scooter that Italian manufacturer Piaggio introduced for the 2009 model year. With the introduction of the nameplate in 2006, the 2009 version marks its fourth model year of production. Two versions of the 2009 Piaggio BV exist: the BV 250 and the BV 500.

The models of the 2009 Piaggio BV are named after the displacement of their engine, which is a four-stroke four-valve single overhead camshaft (SOHC) single-cylinder unit. The engine on the BV 250 is almost 250 cubic centimeters in displacement, while the BV 500 engine nearly doubles that number. The engine on the BV 250 generates 22 horsepower at 8,250 revolutions per minute (RPM), 20.2 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 RPM, and a bore and stroke of 2.8 by 2.4 inches. The engine on the BV 500 pumps out 39 horsepower at 7,250 RPM, 31.1 lb-ft of torque at 6,250 RPM, and a bore and stroke of 3.6 by 2.7 inches.

Each 2009 Piaggio BV engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission, which is also known as a CVT. Designed to shift through unlimited gear ratios, it enables the engine to run at its most efficient RPM and thus increase fuel efficiency. The bike’s electric starter and Magneti Marelli carburetor facilitate a quick engine start, especially during cold weather. Running on premium gas, the 2009 BV has a rather long driving range, with a peak fuel capacity of 2.6 gallons on the BV 250 and 3.5 gallons on the BV 500.

The 2009 Piaggio BV is available in either of two colors: Cortina Gray or Midnight Blue. Each bike has standard halogen headlamps; rearview mirrors; a power outlet for charging a mobile phone; a digital dashboard with speedometer and fuel level gauge; an engine immobilizer for scooter security; and under-seat, helmet, and glove box/dash storage. Sixteen-inch aluminum wheels are fitted on the BV 250; the BV 500 model has sixteen-inch wheels in the front and fourteen-inch wheels at the back.

Each 2009 Piaggio BV has physical dimensions that consist of around 85 inches in length and 30 inches in width. The BV 250 version weighs around 328 lbs., while the BV 500 weighs around 437 lbs. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the Piaggio BV 250 and the Piaggio BV 500 are $4,899 and $6,299, respectively.
