2010 Kymco Sting Review

Intro

The Kymco Sting hasn’t been around long enough to have much of a history, but early results show it is off to a good start. The Kwang Yang Motor Co. (Kymco) introduced this little retro styled scooter to the United States in 2009, where it won nice reviews during the time it was sold in this country. The Sting, however, is only a newcomer to the United States since the Taiwan-based manufacturer has been making it for several years for Asian riders. The Sting uses the same 50 cc two-stroke motor that has been a Kymco standard since the 1990s. The Sting makes a good entry-level scooter and is also well-suited for experienced riders who only want to ride on city streets. With a top speed of 40 mph, it is not suited for highway driving.

The Sting has a front disc brake, something that comparable scooters from other manufacturers do not offer in a two-stroke. Plus, at 32.6 inches, the seat could be a little high for shorter riders. The Sting’s heavier weight also may not work well for small riders. The under-seat storage is considered skimpy, but will hold a standard helmet. The 2010 Sting comes in green, blue, and rose, all paired with silver trim. The Sting has an electric start, with a kick start as back up. The frame is steel, the wheels are aluminum, and the one-piece seat is vinyl. Sales of new model Stings were discontinued in the United States in 2011.
