2006 Kawasaki KLR Review

Intro

The Kawasaki KLR 650 is a very popular motorbike that can easily handle on and off-road conditions. The dual-sport motorbike was first launched in 1987 and remained virtually unchanged until around 2008. This is a popular bike for touring winding roads, city streets, off-road adventures or dirt tracks. The fact that the US Military uses the KLR 650 motorbikes is the most significant endorsement for this Kawasaki Enduro. The MSRP for the 2006 Kawasaki KLR is around $5,200.

The motorbike is equipped with overdrive and a 5-speed manual transmission. The DOHC engine is liquid-cooled, has four valves per cylinder and has a peak output of around 37 horsepower. The 2006 Kawasaki KLR 650 motorbike is around 7.2 feet long, 37 inches wide, around 53 inches tall and has about 9.4 inches of ground clearance. The KLR 650 motorbike comes equipped with a one-piece seat that is made of vinyl and designed to hold up to two people.

The frame of the motorbike is made of aluminum and steel and the body is made of plastic. The KLR motorbike comes equipped with standard hand grips and foot pegs for the driver and passenger as well. This motorbike doesn’t have a drive shaft guard but it does have an engine guard and hand guards as well. The 2006 Kawasaki KLR is equipped with standard front and rear fenders and a standard skid plate as well.

Many riders use these motorbikes to travel hundreds of miles without hesitation.

Some riders love the way these all-around motorbikes handle on the pavement and on the dirt as well. Some riders say these bikes tend to vibrate at high speeds and don’t recommend anything over 70 miles per hour too often. Many riders feel the 2006 Kawasaki KLR 650 is one of the best Enduro motorbikes currently available. Riders typically get around 60 miles per gallon on these well-balanced super motard bike.

New For 2006

  • There Kawasaki KLR was upgraded for 2006 but there were virtually no significant changes to the motorbike. Kawasaki did not launch the KLR 250 motorbike for the year 2006. Overall, surveyed riders preferred the 2005 Kawasaki KLR 650 over the model released the following year. Riders preferred the lower repair costs, better engine performance and reliability, more attractive design, better touring and racing capabilities that the 2005 KLR 650 has in comparison to the 2006 version.
  • Riders felt the 2005 model was more fun and safer as well. These riders also felt the 2005 Kawasaki KLR 650 offered more value for the money when compared to the following year. Despite the preference for the 2005 model, these riders still indicated that the 2006 Kawasaki KLR 650 was still a better choice than most of the motorbikes currently available.
