2008 Husqvarna TE Review

Intro

Since 1903, Husqvarna has produced a varied range of motorcycles known for excellent quality and good value. In 2007, the BMW corporation purchased the Husqvarna line from the Italian owner, Caviga. However, BMW still considers Husqvarna a separate brand and enterprise. Although BMW owns and operates Husqvarna corporately, Husqvarna motorcycles are still known for their distinctive styles and diverse machines. Husqvarna bikes are developed and sold from their facilities in Varese, Italy. For 2008, Husqvarna created the TE as the largest of the Enduro models in the line-up. They crafted these bikes with 250, 450, 510 and 610 cc engines, but all of them are a testament to the longevity and quality that is typical of the Husqvarna brand name.

The Husqvarna TE has slimmer, sporty look to it. Over the years, Husqvarna has minimized the amount of plastic bodywork that is included on the TE models, allowing the fine frame geometry and visible engine parts to speak for themselves. The plastic that does remain on the bike features contrasting red, white and black, a color combination that complements the white painted frame and shiny, silver wheels and rims. All four models are virtually identical except for the larger engine and greater power delivery that the bigger engines provide.

When test riders climbed aboard the Husqvarna TE, they were amazed at the capability of the four valve, four-stroke, liquid cooled engine. At all gears, the TE showed off amazing torque and endless power delivery. Drivers were able to shift gears effortlessly thanks to a well-designed hydraulic clutch, and they were very impressed with the new Marzocchi suspension and the Sach shock. The Brembo brakes did exactly what they were designed to do. Stopping was reliable and steady at all speeds.

Overall, test drivers thoroughly enjoyed riding all versions of the 2008 Husqvarna TE. The new fuel injection system improved the operation of the motorcycle. Test drivers only noted a couple of minor negatives to the 2008 Husqvarna TE motorcycles. First, these bikes are rather tall. Short riders may need to make some adjustments before they ride too far from a tool kit. Second, the Husqvarna TE is somewhat top heavy, so bold, confident handling is a necessity. However, the great engine and excellent engineering of the TE more than make up for these two minor points.

New For 2008

  • Husqvarna gave the TE a new fuel injected engine for the 2008 year.
  • The 2008 Husqvarna TE has a new chassis, designed for greater rider comfort.
  • The Husqvarna TE was decked out with 50 millimeter Marzocchi forks for 2008, so the suspension on this bike is better than ever.
