2011 Aprilia Scarabeo Review

Intro

In Italy, the 2011 Aprilia Scarabeo is the scooter to have and is one of the most popular models being sold there. Available in both a 150 and 200-cc option (specs herein are for 200-cc), the Scarabeo has seen several design improvements for the 2011 model year and is now being exported to several countries, including the United States. The new model includes an updated look, added ergonomics, engine upgrades, new dashboard electronics, and much more.

The Scarabeo has long been known for its retro rounded look and in keeping with that, Aprilia has retained most of those style elements in this new design. The rear end, front fascia, and footrest, however, have been changed to add to aerodynamics, ergonomics, and rider comfort. The flat footrest means more room to stretch out while the raised rear means a softer ride for passengers and a more level vantage point for the driver. The flattening of the front fascia and addition of a new, molded windscreen mean less turbulence for the driver.

In the engine, upgraded fuel injectors mean higher performance and better fuel economy while other engine block changes mean less vibration and smoother operation. This is coupled to new electronics that allow the driver to control the driving mode (ECO or Sport) for better economy or better performance. Added to this are other sensors that can display ambient (outside) temperature and on-board computer controls that can be accessed from the handlebar and displayed on the integrated LED screen. The new design of the Scarabeo gives a new, modernized look to the scooter while the better engine and controls mean a more refined drive for the rider. It is signature Aprilia.
