With the introduction of the Aprilia Mana 850 at the end of 2007, the Italian manufacturer of motorcycles aspired to change the way people in Europe commute. Because of their emphasis on practicality, they may actually have been successful. The 2011 Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS is a half-faired version of the original naked bike model with touring capabilities. It is powered by the same 839.3-cc, V-twin engine that produces 76 horsepower and 54 lb-ft of torque. Unique to the Aprilia Mana 850 is the intelligent continuously variable transmission that has the sequential riding mode and the Autodrive riding mode. This provides excellent handling and the ease of switching between riding styles. The Sport Gear Transmission separates the Aprilia Mana 850 from the rest of the motorcycles in this category.
The sequential riding mode allows the rider to change gears by pedal or by pressing a switch located on the handlebar. If the rider does not downshift when decelerating, the Semi-Sequential feature shifts down gears. In the Autodrive mode the continuously variable transmission does everything for the rider, who only needs to take care of the acceleration. In the Autodrive mode the rider can also switch between three transmission maps depending on the ride conditions: touring, sport, or rain. The touring mode provides the best mileage; the sport mode provides the best performance, while the rain mode is designed for slippery roads, allowing for a safer ride. Another thing that is unique to the 2011 Aprilia Mana 850 GT is that the rider can switch between the automatic and sequential mode at any time.
Being a sport touring bike, the 2011 Aprilia Mana 850 GT is equipped with anti-lock brakes. The two-channel Continental anti-lock brakes make for effective and precise braking on surfaces that do not provide good grip. A rather distinct design feature of the Aprilia Mana 850 GT is the under-seat fuel tank. The clever placement allows for an impressive fuel capacity of 4.23 gallons and a very useful helmet and storage compartment where the fuel tank is conventionally placed. Illuminated and lined with non-scratch, non-slip material, the compartment also contains a cell phone holder, a glove box, and a 12-volt power socket. This means that the rider does not have to carry around their helmet and other items. The fuel tank is placed such that it allows a low center of gravity and more effective weight distribution. The difference between the GT model and the standard model is that the GT model has an adjustable windshield and stylish fairing. The 2011 Aprilia Mana 850 GT is a well put together, attractively designed sport touring motorcycle that offers some very impressive and innovative features.
