On Two Wheels: Bikes Towing Bikes! Honda vs. Kawasaki

It’s Gold Wing & CRF250X vs. Vulcan Voyager & KX250F in this all-terrain Southwest adventure.

Yes, you can throw your dirtbike in the back of a truck, or on a trailer behind a four-wheeled vehicle. There’s a reason that’s the go-to technique for motorcyclists. But here at On Two Wheels we’re restricted to using, well, two wheels. It’s the name of the show after all. So, when we wanted to ride to and then on the red rocks and powdery sand of Utah, we knew we were going to have to wade into the murky waters of towing bikes with bikes.

Turns out, trailer culture is plenty strong. Frankly, we always thought those people towing campers or their dogs or even cargo were off their rockers. Then we looked into the market and found lots of options for towing, including special-made parts for both the Honda Gold Wing and the Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager, and no shortage of encouragement from the internet (you can always count on the internet for giving a thumbs up to a bad idea).

So the boys set out to get to Utah, with their CRF250X and KX250F dirtbikes, using only a Gold Wing and a Vulcan Voyager 1700 towing shaky, home-built trailers (using generously donated hitches from bushtec.com and marvellas.com).

Did they careen out of control, or have a great time? Watch the video to find out.
