2012 Tomos Nitro

2012 Tomos Nitro 50

Intro

What do you think of when you think of a scooter? For most, a scooter is about having fun without the intensity or the high price of a full power motorcycle. If this is your interpretation of what the scooter is all about, the 2012 Tomos Nitro definitely fits the bill. The Tomos Nitro, which comes in a 50 and 150 model with a four-stroke engine, offers just the kind of ride you want from a scooter, and is of course, extremely affordable.

Tomos is a well-established Slovenian company that has been in the powersport vehicle business for over 50 years. While they are a small company, it is a company made up of dedicated enthusiasts of mopeds, motorcycles and other motor vehicles, and this dedication has resulted in many fine products over the years, including the Tomos line of scooters, of which the Nitro has been a proud member since 2008.

In addition to the smooth, comfortable ride and gentle but ample acceleration on the Tomos Nitro, you’ll appreciate its special features, like a backup kick start mechanism, a ton of under seat storage space, and both a side and center stand for easy parking when you’re not riding your scooter.

This scooter is great for riders of all ages, from young riders just learning to appreciate powersport vehicles to much older riders who need a reliable source of transportation but can’t handle anything too heavy. This scooter is not only reliable, but requires relatively little maintenance, which is nice, since you don’t want to put a lot of money into your scooter if you can avoid it. While each scooter can have its own issues, if you’re looking for a scooter that you can put a lot of miles on without having it break down or having to deal with a lot of maintenance issues, the Tomos Nitro is a pretty good scooter to look into.

This scooter can get up over 30 mph and is street legal, so it is definitely a legitimate mode of transportation as well as an opportunity for weekend fun. If you need a reliable way to get back and forth from work without struggling with traffic, or to get back and forth from the grocery store without too much hassle, the 2012 Tomos Nitro is definitely a vehicle you should look at.

The Tomos Nitro 150, which, like the Tomos Nitro 50, was introduced in 2008, is a nice upgrade for those who want just a little more power compared to the 49cc displacement engine of the Nitro 50. The Tomos Nitro 150 features a 149.5cc displacement, air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine linked to the Nitro’s Continuously Variable Transmission. It costs a little more, but you’ll also get a little more oomph for your buck.

The Nitro is a good looking scooter. The plastic body with steel frame has a speedy, aerodynamic looking, stylish shape, and a big, comfortable one piece seat for two. It comes in five striking colors, yellow, red, blue, black, orange and silver, all of which suit the scooter and will have you feeling as cool as you can possibly feel behind the handlebars of a scoot.

While it’s not necessarily the fastest scooter out there, it can get up to pretty good speeds, especially with a little tweaking. If you’re looking for a reliable, fun scooter with a smooth ride that can get you where you want to go day after day, even if where you want to go is nowhere in particular, the 2012 Tomos Nitro, with either the 49cc displacement or the 149.5 displacement engine, is a fine choice.
