Designed for off-road use and targeted towards cross country enthusiasts, the 2012 edition of the Husqvarna TXC is split into three models: the TXC 250, the TXC 310, and TXC 511. Its manufacturer, BMW subsidiary Husqvarna Motorcycles, set the manufacturer’s suggested retail price at $7,399 for the TXC 250, $7,899 for the TXC 310, and $8,299 for the TXC 511.
Powering each 2012 Husqvarna TXC is a four-stroke air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which varies in displacement depending on model. The TXC 250, for instance, has an engine displacement at 249.5 cubic centimeters (cc). The engine on the TXC 310 and TXC 511 displaces at 302.4 cc and 477.5 cc, respectively. Each engine has two intake valves, based on a double overhead camshaft configuration. It is fueled by a Mikuni carburetor and paired to a six-speed manual transmission. The gas tank on each 2012 TXC 250 and 310 can hold up to 2.25 gallons (8.5 liters); Husqvarna increased the peak capacity on the TXC 511 to 2.51 gallons (9.5 L).
The 2012 Husqvarna TXC uses a pair of Brembo® hydraulic disc brakes for its stopping power. A 10.2-inch (260-millimeter) disc goes at the front, while a smaller, 9.5-inch (240-mm) disc is placed at the back. The Kabaya suspension on the bike consists of a thick 1.9-inch (48-mm) inverted fork at the front and a twin-sided Kabaya swing arm at the back made of a lightweight combination of chromium molybdenum. The 2012 TXC rides on front 21-inch and rear 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in tubed Michelin® tires.
For reducing weight while retaining a solid feel, Husqvarna used chromium molybdenum to build the 2012 Husqvarna TXC’s frame. Covering the bike are the customary fenders, in addition to the chain, heel, exhaust, and fork guards; side covers; and skid plate for underside protection.
Each 2012 Husqvarna TXC has a width of 32.3 inches (820 mm). The TXC 250 and the 310 share a length of 85.7 inches (2,176.3 mm). At 86.9 inches (2,206.7 mm), the TXC 511 is longer than the other models. It also has a longer wheelbase, at 58.7 inches (1,483 mm), compared to the 57.9 inches (1,470.7 mm) on the TXC 250 and 310. The dry weight on the 2012 TXC is measured at 239.4 lbs. (108.6 kilograms) for the TXC 250, 240.5 lbs. (109.1 kg) for the TXC 310, and 242.5 lbs. (110 kg) for the TXC 511.
Granted, the 2012 Husqvarna TXC omits some standard features common on most off-road bikes. However, for a zippy, lightweight ride, the TXC delivers.
