2011 Yamaha XT 250

Intro

The 2011 Yamaha XT 250 might look, feel, and act like the same model that was released in 2008, but that's perfectly ok, because if something isn't broken, it doesn't need to be fixed. And that's the approach that the Japanese manufacturer takes with this year's incarnation of the tremendously popular dual-purpose bike.

Like previous models, the 2011 Yamaha XT 250 is outfitted with a low 31.9-inch seat height, which makes it attractive and comfortable for a wide range of riders, despite its long travel suspension and more than 11 inches of ground clearance. The bike looks much higher than it actually is. Whether you're looking for a proven off-road performer, or you want a reliable and fuel-efficient way to get around town, the Yamaha XT 250 is one of the few bikes capable of performing any task asked of a motorbike.

The 2011 Yamaha XT250 is powered by a rock-solid, air-cooled, SOHC, two-valve, four-stroke, 249cc engine that delivers exceptional torque across the entire RPM range, while its 74mm forged piston ensures immediate throttle response and exceptional durability. Other popular mainstays include the XT's reliable CDI ignition and Teikei MV 33mm constant velocity carburetor.

The Yamaha XT250 has a rugged steel exhaust system that is preternatUrally quiet and configured to meet all current EPA emission regulations. The bike also features heat shields on the muffler and header pipe to protect driver and passenger from accidental contact burns, as well as U.S. Forestry-approved built-in spark arrestors for safer off-roading.

Braking on the Yamaha XT250 comes courtesy of a 245mm front disc and 203mm rear disc, while the fully capable suspension system is made up of a 35mm front fork with 8.9 inches of travel and a rear rebound-adjustable single shock with 7.1 inches of travel.

Like previous models, the 2011 Yamaha XT250 is one of the lightest and most compact in its class. It has a generous 2.4-gallon fuel tank and a reported fuel economy of 73 mpg. As far as its exterior goes, it might not be the most visually innovative bike on the road, but then again, it's not really designed to be. The 2011 Yamaha XT has rugged, wide fenders; a long, thick seat; a handsomely styled fuel tank; dual lollipop mirrors; and an endure-style round headlight. Available in Yamaha white with red and black detailing, the XT is a good-looking bike that outperforms just about every one of its competitors in price and function.
