The 2011 Suzuki DR 650SE and DR-Z400S are part of the Suzuki Dualsport line. These bikes are designed to deliver comfort on the blacktop, as well as adventure and control for those whose paths lead into uncharted territory. The comfort achieved during street riding only compares to the joy of handling in off-road situations. The Dualsport line for Suzuki delivers in two worlds with only one price tag. This is not a small feat in the motorcycle world. The instrumentation is kept simple, with only a speedometer and trip odometer available on these models.
The Suzuki DR 650SE was introduced in 1990 as a replacement for the DR600. The initial models introduced were kick-start, while the 2011 has an electric start. In addition, since its introduction, the 650SE has decreased power in order to enhance control and has lost a little weight to assist with handling both on-road and off. This model comes with several enhancing features, such as the aluminum cylinder coated with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material that allows for optimal heat transfer, durability and some weight reduction. Other features include a light, corrosion-resistant, stainless steel exhaust system, hollow wheel axles, and an aluminum swing arm to help decrease overall weight.
The Suzuki DR-Z400S replaces the DR350. This street-legal version comes equipped with a headlight, taillights, turn signals, mirrors, and a horn. Other models include the DR-Z400E, which has an electric start and is street-legal in Australia but not the U.S.; the DR-Z400, which is a kick-start model and not street legal; and the DR-Z400SM, the SuperMoto version. The one-piece vinyl seats are not offered with a backrest, making the ride comfortable without being over-prepared for those off-road adventures. A grab rail or strap does come standard to help passengers stay on for the entire journey. Both the driver and passenger can rely on the Dualsport line to get riders from point A to point B, overcoming any obstacles in between. These bikes can be enjoyed as work transportation or a weekend escape.
