2011 Honda Silver Wing ABS

The Honda Silver Wing has been in production for more than 10 years, with a small amount of time between 2008 and 2011 where it went out of production. For 2011, the Silver Wing returns with all-black paint job. Also for 2011, the originally optional anti-lock brakes are standard fare. Other than this, the Honda Silver Wing has seen very little in the way of upgrades over the years. This is because the Silver Wing is still one of the best maxi scooters available on the market. As Honda's faster scooter, it comes equipped with an impressive 582-cc, parallel twin engine that produces 38.2 horsepower and has a top speed of 112 miles per hour, which is incredibly impressive in this segment. This high speed is coupled with excellent torque and acceleration, and estimates suggest that the 2011 Honda Silver Wing can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in as little as eight seconds.

The transmission in the Honda Silver Wing is a continuously variable transmission, which allows for a single speed and extremely smooth acceleration and operation. The transmission comes with three different modes for acceleration, which help lower the chances of wheelspin and offers much needed reduction of fuel usage depending on how the throttle is being pressed. As everything is a bit impressive and powerful when compared to many typical scooters, the amount of fuel needed is also going to be more than usual. Estimated fuel economy is a small 46 miles to the gallon, which is easily beat by more practical commuting vehicles and scooters. The weight is a stunning 551 pounds, which along with the suspension and sturdy design helps keep it firmly planted even during windy rides. The chrome accenting and well-chiseled bodywork make it look attractive without trying to pretend that it is something other than a scooter.

The seating is especially comfortable for the driver, and it is adequate for a passenger as well. The rear seat backrest can be adjusted for comfort. Storage includes limited trunk, underseat storage with enough room for two helmets, and two front compartments that offer some limited space. The Silver Wing's biggest con is the high price point without an extremely long list of advanced features to justify it. That said, scooter enthusiasts generally very well receive it. Braking is not only anti-lock brakes, but it also features a dual braking system for an easy to control bike. Overall, the 2011 Silver Wing is an extremely agile and versatile scooter that gives plenty of stability and motor power. It is great for commuting, quick enough for interstate speeds, and offers plenty of style. When compared to the competitors, the scooter can't beat them in fuel economy, but there are very few scooters with larger engines.
