2010 Ural sT

2010 Ural ST 750

Intro

The 2010 Ural sT is the Russian motorcycle maker’s first big foray into the two-wheeled bike sector. Known for manufacturing its famous 750cc, boxer-engine adventure motorcycles, IMZ-Ural decided to redesign its standard three-wheeled bikes for riders who don’t want the third wheel. Despite the new lightweight sidecar-devoid design, the Ural sT still resembles the first Soviet copy of the 1930s BMW R71 motorcycle that the country built while preparing for possible military action against the invading German troops during World War II.

For designing the first military motorcycle variant for the Red Army, five models of the BMW motorcycles were dismantled by Soviet engineers. The Ural bikes were then manufactured by reverse engineering these dismantled BMW models. These vehicles, which were born during the vacuum of Communism in the country, were designed especially for rugged roads which were difficult to cross otherwise. In the post-Communist era, Ural variants gained popularity not only among off-roaders but also among urban riders who preferred utility to thrills. The motorcycles also have an increasing fan base among those riders who just want something different.

As the new 2010 Ural sT models feature the same 70-year-old BMW R71 technology, the variant is quite easy to maintain and is very reliable as well. The 2010 sT comes fitted with an air-cooled, twin-cylinder, four-stroke boxer engine; dual Keihin carburetors; Marzocchi telescopic forks; and Brembo front brakes. Besides this, the model is also equipped with Sachs hydraulic shock absorbers on the back with a double-sided swing arm. With 6.7 inches of ground clearance and 441 pounds of dry weight, the 2010 sT is a perfect choice for lightweight bike riders. The bike reportedly has the unique ability to adjust itself according to the road and riding conditions. While the bike is competent on the highways and back roads, it can also be ridden relatively fast on dirt or gravel routes despite its road-biased tires. The sT can easily and conveniently apply its power on loose surfaces without excessive wheel-spin and with an ease that is not seen in any modern heavyweight vehicles like the BMW R1200GS. The sT’s short wheelbase of 1490 mm, on the other hand, creates extremely rapid steering. Despite this, the vehicle is easy to handle and retains stability even over mild off-road obstacles. The bike’s physical measures also allow for comfortable riding. The 2010 sT has an overall length of 2160 mm and a height of 1080 mm.

The 2010 base model comes in flat black with a black rear fender rack, black trim, and straight stainless steel exhaust. The flat road shade assures that the vehicle survives any form of off-road abuse. Apart from the durability factor, the color also makes the vehicle look elegant and timeless. The model can also be further customized with additional equipment or accessories to suit personal preferences.
