Lance Powersports is relatively new to the two-wheeled motor vehicle scene, only beginning to import entry-level motor bikes in 2004. Headquartered in Mira Loma, California, Lance Powersports began importing scooters manufactured in Taiwan by the Sanyang Industry Co. (SYM), a leader in scooter technology, in 2009. Lance introduced the Cali Classic to the United States in 2010; it is produced exclusively for Lance by SYM. The Cali Classic comes in two models: 50 cc and 125 cc. The Cali Classic is available in a variety of colors, including red, blue, yellow, black, and white
The majority of scooters coming out of Taiwan or the People’s Republic of China have steeply-sloped front ends. Not so the Cali Classic. The gracefully styled front end has a vintage look that is reminiscent of Vespa or the Yamaha Vino. This gives it a more expensive look than what you will find in other Chinese scooters. The Cali Classic is not only a good entry-level scooter, but it will also appeal to the more experienced rider. At 90 mpg to 105 mpg, the Cali is economical to run, especially for short trips around town or commuting to work. It also is good for short highway rides, but riders will want to stay off freeways because the Cali Classic 125 has a top speed of only 59 mph. Gasoline will cost a little more than for other scooters, which run on regular fuel. The Cali is made to run on a mid-grade gasoline of 90 octane or higher.
The Cali Classic comes with both electric- and kick- starts. The vinyl seat is big enough for the rider and one passenger. The under-seat storage is large enough to hold a helmet when the scooter is not being ridden. The instrument panel is a cluster containing an easy-to-read speedometer, fuel gauge and turn signal pods. Used at the same time, the front and rear brakes provide stopping in short distances. The frame is made of high-strength steel; the wheels are aluminum. It can carry a weight of 333 pounds, though speed is likely to be reduced with higher weights. Owners report maintenance is minimal, basically just routine oil changes.
