Taiwan’s largest scooter manufacturer, Kwang Yang Motor Co. (Kymco), introduced the People S motor scooter to the United States in 2006. It is available in two models in 2010: the People S 200 and the People S 250. Kymco considers the S 250 to be the flagship of the S series. Both are four-stroke, mid-range displacement scooters, with a sleek Euro design. Both come with rear luggage racks, which can be fitted with optional top storage cases. Both also come in the same colors: red, blue, and black.
The S 250 is faster than its smaller sibling. It has a 249 cc engine compared to the S 200’s 163 cc. It also has a bigger gas tank – 2.2 gallons compared to the S 200s 1.8 gallons. Front- and rear-suspension systems make riding over bumps or potholes in the road more comfortable, though some of this may be due to the substantially padded seat, which seats two people comfortable. Riders say the 16-inch wheels offer stability and do a good job of maneuvering. The scooter has pegs that fold up when there‘s no passenger on board. The under-seat storage will hold one helmet; a helmet hook also is available. The instrument panel includes an analog speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer. A small windscreen is standard equipment on the scooters.
Both the S 200 and the S 250 are a great upgrade for a rider looking to move up from a 49cc or 125 cc scooter. These scooters have the power to handle freeway speeds. The S 200 was replaced by the S 200i in 2012.
