Intro

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM introduced its SX line of dirt bikes to the United States in the mid-2000s. These Supercross bikes are geared for competition, a place where KTM motorcycles really shine. The SX line has eleven models, ranging from 50 cc to a 450 cc SX-F Factory Edition. Mid-point in the list is the 150 SX, which KTM describes as ""Performance approaching that of a 250 with the handling of a 125. The perfect all-rounder in the 2-stroke segment…"" Though it could be ridden on mountain trails, it is much better suited for Motocross competitions, with bikes for all sizes and ages, beginning with youngsters who were probably riding trails with their parents before they could run. These kids are fearless on the dirt track as they speed around it on their tiny 50 cc’s.

Just above the 150 SX is the 250 two-stroke, which reviewers claim is the most user-friendly and fun of all the 250s manufactured. They also say it has more power when it counts than its competitors, making it one of the fastest Motocross racers around. Some test riders give the 450 SX (the biggest model made) poor marks on suspension, noting some vibration on tracks that were torn up, but said handling was top-notch on tracks that had been prepped. One of the biggest changes to 450 SX in 2010 is the frame. The main body of the chromium molybdenum frame is 10 mm lower where it is welded to the steering head, lowering the bike’s overall height and center of gravity. The SX bikes come with a kick start, and require premium-grade gasoline to operate smoothly.

The KTM 150 SX comes with so many original equipment manufacturer (OEM) accessories, a Motocross competitor might have to make some difficult choices. Gas tanks come in three sizes (11.5, 13 and 21.5 liters) that are bigger than the stock tank. Accessories and parts, from skid plates and Renthal handlebars, to hand guards and hand grips, come in assorted colors. KTM also offers fork guards and fork protectors, a handlebar cushion, lower or higher seat, a rev heater, and tank heat shield, to name just a few more accessories.
