2010 KTM Super Duke 990 R

Intro

The KTM Super Duke was first manufactured by KTM Sportmotorcycle AG in 2005, with the 990R model being introduced in 2008. KTM has been making motorcycles since 1954. The manufacturer is famous for making off-road and motocross bikes; the Super Duke is the Austrian manufacturer’s successful entry into street riding and racing, with riders often referring to it as ""one hot toy."" The Super Duke also was referred to as ""an Austrian brute pumped full of steroids” by one reviewer. Early models were available in black with orange trim, but in 2010 KTM painted some parts on the basic 990 matte olive green. KTM retained its classic colors orange, black, and white for the 990R. Both models have ""SUPER DUKE"" boldly imprinted on the radiator shrouds.

This super-street bike features a powder coated chromium-molybdenum tubular trellis frame, in orange or silver, with black plastic bodywork. The exterior design has not been updated in several years, other than for colors, but the naked bike’s design continues to look as new as models just recently introduced by other manufacturers. Users report the seat is comfortable for long rides, though short-legged riders could have problems with the 34.1-inch high seat; the one-piece driver‘s seat is made from vinyl. This super bike also is fast, taking only 11.1 seconds to reach a quarter-mile from a standing start. The Super Duke has 130 horsepower, giving it a top speed of approximately 136 mph, which is more than enough power for freeway riding. It also shines in its class on the racetrack. Some riders report the digital instrument panel, that includes a clock and an analog-style tachometer, can be difficult to read at high speeds.

Other technical details about this supersport bike include a wet double disc clutch, while the exhaust system utilizes a stainless steel silencer. The 17-inch diameter wheels are made from aluminum.
