2010 Husqvarna SM 450

Intro

Husqvarna’s SM Series is inspired by European Supermoto racing, and bears the brand’s championship pedigree. Husqvarna was the first motorcycle manufacturer to have an official European Supermoto team, which originated in the early 1990s. The SM Series is designed to have a wide appeal, and hobbyists and competitive racers alike find something to get excited about in these bikes.

Both the Husqvarna SM 450 and the Husqvarna SM 510 have been completely redesigned for the 2010 model year, in terms of their performance, reliability, and safety features. They both receive new twin exhaust systems, new fuel injection systems, and new frames, which are a full 2.2 pounds lighter than the bikes from the previous model year. This makes both models of the Husqvarna easier to handle, while simultaneously contributing to a better overall feel.

The plastic body panels of the Husqvarna SM series have also undergone changes for the current model year. They now feature IPD, which stands for In-mold Plastic Decoration. This basically means the graphics are now a physical part of the panels themselves, which are made of a stronger and more flexible material than the panels on the previous year’s models. For riders who pride themselves on the appearance of their bikes, this means no more decals to scratch or flake off and look unsightly while on the road.

Both of the Husqvarna SM models have received several mechanical upgrades for 2010, which should make them even more appealing to the discerning rider. Their dual overhead cam power plants now have improved cooling systems, improved lubrication systems, more durable exhaust valves, new timing chain tensioners, and improved gearboxes, as well.

The front and rear lighting systems on the 2010 Husqvarna SM Series have also been made more powerful than in previous years, and now feature LED rear taillights. Both the Husqvarna 450 and the 510 feature Brembo hydraulic disc brake systems on the front and rear, and both sit on Pirelli rubber when it comes to the tires, so the cautious rider will have plenty of grip and stopping power underneath him.

The main difference between the 2010 Husqvarna SM 450 and SM 510 is, of course, the engine. The 450 sports a 449cc power plant, and the 510 is outfitted with a 501cc. Both are single-cylinder, four-stroke motors and feature dual overhead cams, fuel injection, and electric starters.
