2010 Ducati 848 Dark

The 2010 Ducati 848 is the Italian manufacturer's middleweight sportbike. Carrying on the tradition of building impressive-performing racing bikes, Ducati changes little with this year's model, which is designed and engineered to resemble the larger 1098 superbike.

The Ducati 848 is available in three sub-models – the Base, the Dark, and the Nicky Hayden. Each shares the same design and engine, with the only differences found in the paint schemes of the bikes. The Nicky Hayden model is an exclusive for the North American market, and it features a special American-inspired paint job with the celebrity racer's signature on its 4.1 gallon gas tank. Only 150 of these models were made.

The Ducati 848 is powered by a 134 horsepower, 849.4cc, L-Twin Desmodromic engine that was specially designed for this model line. Capable of producing 70.8 lb-ft of torque at 8250 rpm, the 2010 Ducati 848 has plenty of power and punch for a middleweight bike.

Fuel delivery is masterfully managed by the bike's Marelli electronic fuel injection system, and the six-speed transmission with multi-plate wet clutch with hydraulic control ensures easy and smooth power delivery, and instant throttle response. The Ducati 848 has a sturdy tubular steel trellis frame that maximizes the bike's rigidity, and along with its 43mm Showa inverted fork on the front and fully adjustable monoshock on the back, performance and handling is simply divine.

Braking is a standout feature on the 2010 Ducati 848. The bike comes standard with dual 320mm hydraulic discs with four-piston, two-pad Brembo calipers up front, and a single 245mm disc with two-piston caliper on the rear wheel.

The exterior of the 2010 Ducati 848 is just as impressive as its specially-designed engine. Featuring sharp headlights and air intakes, the small nose of the bike is traditional Ducati, while the smooth fairing and cooling scoop showcase the bike's inspired design that's based in no small part on the 1098. Like most sportbikes, the 848 has a thin rider seat that's a comfortable 32.6 inches off the ground. The passenger seat, however, has slightly more padding than what's usually found on most sportbike passenger seats. The bike's dual exhaust is run so it sits under the passenger seat, giving the 2010 Ducati 848 a definitive Italian touch.

New For 2010
  • The 2010 Ducati 848 is a carryover model with no significant changes in body style or engine over the previous year's model. The Nicky Hayden model is a new and highly limited version of the bike for the 2010 model year.
