2009 Vectrix VX 1

Intro

The Vectrix Vx-1 was introduced to the U.S. market back in 2007, and the 2009 Vetrix VX series consists of three all-electric scooters: the Vx-1, the all-new 2009 Vx-1e, and the all-new 2009 Vx-2. The Vx-1 and Vx-1e are maxi-sized scooters built on the same platform that utilize the same drivetrain, while the Vx-1e features a lower price point, less acceleration, and a lower top speed. The 2009 Vectrix Vx-2 is patterned after gas-powered, 50cc scooters, and is more compact in size, with less acceleration and a lower top speed, as well.

The Vectrix Vx-1 body design walks the line between the angular body design sported by most scooters built in the 1980s and a classic Gull Wing touring motorcycle, built on a short wheelbase and smaller wheels for maximum distance and electric efficiency. The beefed up fairing and tail give this scooter a sleek yet powerful look that compliments its economic and environmentally friendly design. It’s available in several two-tone color schemes: White and Burgundy, White and Metallic Silver, White and Sapphire Blue, and White and Acid Green.

The 2009 Vectrix Vx-1 has a standard seat height of 30 inches, with an optional reduced seat height that will allow for even the smallest of riders to comfortably put both feet on the ground when at a stop. Onboard storage, locked and unlocked with the ignition mechanism of the scooter, consists of several elements, including: a glove compartment rated for 10 pounds, an under-seat storage bin that contains the charging cable and still has enough room left for a full-size helmet (rated for up to 26 pounds), and an optional cargo box for tail-mounting that can hold an additional 20 pounds worth of gear or groceries.

Equipped with a brushless DC electric motor boasting an impressive top speed of 62 mph and a range of 30 to 55 miles on a single charge of its NiMH battery, the Vx-1 can handle a passenger and rider with ease and fully recharge in between three and five hours on a standard household socket. A sophisticated throttle allows the rider to recapture energy via regenerative braking. Though it has a curb weight of 515 pounds, it costs just one cent per mile to run this aluminum-frame scooter.
