2009 Triumph Speed Triple

Intro

Mild riders need not apply. The 2009 Triumph Speed Triple is listed as a roadster on their website, but that doesn’t quite capture the essence of the Speed Triple. Triumph dubbed the Speed Triple the “original factory streetfighter bike” in their marketing brochures, and that should give prospective riders a better indication of what the Speed Triple actually is. Historically, streetfighter bikes have been heavily modified for increased performance over the stock bike, but with its potent engine and solid braking, the 2009 Triumph Speed Triple truly embodies the term ""factory streetfighter.""

The styling on the 2009 Triumph Speed Triple is minimalist and appropriate for a naked streetfighter, or hooligan bike. There are no superfluous details here, just smooth, sleek lines. If you like your bikes stripped-down and raw, then the Speed Triple will appeal to your tastes.

What really sets the Triumph Speed Triple apart from other bikes is its engine. On the Speed Triple, Triumph’s 1050cc engine does not disappoint. Powering the Speed Triple with 130 hp and 77 ft. lbs. of torque, this engine can accurately be described as a beast. With a zero to 60 time of 3.3 seconds, no one will be complaining about the Speed Triple lacking power. The engine is tuned to provide excellent bottom end torque, and a smooth acceleration curve. At any starting speed, the Speed Triple can supply plenty of acceleration for the circumstances. An x ring chain drive transmission transfers this abundance of power to the wheels. The 6-gearbox with a wet multi-plate slipper clutch on the Speed Triple can be delicate below 5000 RPM, so new owners should be careful when shifting for the first time. The only downside to this much power is that without exercising restraint, your license will be at risk.

For streetfighter riders who intend to perform tricks, having a sturdy frame is important. An aluminum beam twin spar frame forms the foundation for the 2009 Triumph Speed Triple’s stable chassis. Handling is also important on a streetfighter bike. With adjustable preload, compression damping, and rebound, Triumph has designed the Speed Triple’s suspension to be tuned specifically for a rider’s individual preferences. With 180/55 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheel anchors in the rear, and a 120/70 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheel on the front, Triumph Speed Triple owners should face no problems finding the right tires for them.

Triumph updated the brakes on the Speed Triple for 2009. The Speed Triple now sports twin 320mm disc brakes for its front brakes, and a single 220mm disc brake in the rear, with high spec Brembo calipers, and a radial master cylinder. This provides an outstanding braking solution, with plenty of slowing and stopping power. It also allows for “two-finger” braking that is easy to modulate and control.

The console on the 2009 Speed Triple is Triumph’s standard sports dash. All the important information is clearly positioned, and easy to read at speed. The Speed Triple comes in Jet Black, Blazing Orange, Fusion White, and a Matte Black finish, so riders will be able to find a color that suits their style. Triumph also offers plenty of accessories to further customize your potent streetfighter. If you are looking for a bike on the wild side, the 2009 Triumph Speed Triple could be perfect for you.
