2009 KYMCO People S 200

Intro

The 2009 Kymco People S is the spruced-up counterpart to the People scooter nameplate that Taiwanese automaker Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd. (Kymco.) released for the 2009 model year. Set apart from the regular People bike with the ""S"" suffix, the People S uses the styling of Euro scooters and is comparatively more expensive. The 2009 People S is split into three versions: the People S 50, People S 200, and People S 250.

Similar to bikes with numerical suffixes, the models of the 2009 Kymco People S are named after the displacement of their four-stroke single-cylinder engines. The engine on the People S 50 has a displacement of 49 cubic centimeters (cc) which is rounded up to 50. The one on the People S 200 has a displacement of 163cc (rounded down to 150). The one on the People S 250 has the highest displacement of the scooter’s models, at 249cc (rounded up to 250). Thus the S 50, S 200 and S 250 are classified as 50cc, 200cc and 250cc scooters, respectively.

Each 2009 Kymco People S engine has an air cooler to cool down the unit and thus prevent malfunction due to overheating. The electric starter and Keihin carburetor enable the bike to start quickly, and is essential for cold weather. A muffler with exhaust catalyst technology goes on each model for reducing air pollution.

The 2009 Kymco People S engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission, or CVT. What sets apart the CVT from other transmissions is the distinct ability to shift through an unlimited number of effective gear ratios, thus making the engine run more efficiently and providing improved fuel economy.

Maximum fuel capacity and fuel efficiency vary according to model. Peak fuel capacity is estimated at 1.8 gallons for the People S 50 and S 200 and 2.2 gallons for the S250. Despite the larger fuel capacity, the People S 250 is the least fuel efficient of the three models. It provides a fuel economy of 71 miles per gallon (mpg), compared with the 75 mpg of the other versions.

The 2009 Kymco People S comes as a red, blue, or black scooter. It comes standard with halogen headlights; rearview mirrors; tinted windshield; exhaust guard; rear rack; under-seat, helmet, and glove box/dash storage; and large 16-inch aluminum wheels. Included on the People S dashboard are an analog speedometer, odometer, digital clock and fuel level indicator. Kymco adds a cell phone accessory plug, full front fender and detailed grill on the S 250.

The physical measurements of the 2009 Kymco People S consists of a length between 79 and 84 inches, a width of around 28 or 29 inches, and a height of 46 or 51 inches. The wheelbase is around 53 inches for the People S 50 and People S 200 models, and 56 inches for the People S 250. In addition to being the biggest model, comparatively speaking, the S 250 is also the heaviest, with a dry weight of around 348 lbs. (The S 50 and S 200 models weigh around 225 lbs. and 256 lbs., respectively.) The scooter’s one-piece vinyl seat, built for the accommodation of the driver and one passenger, is 31 inches high.

The People S 50 version of the 2009 Kymco People S is the least expensive, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,449. True to its mid-level status, the People S 200 is placed in the middle, with an MSRP of $3,299. The People S 250 is the most expensive of the three models, with an MSRP of $4,499.
