2009 KYMCO Agility 50

Intro

The 2009 Kymco Agility is an entry-level scooter from Taiwanese manufacturer Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd. (Kymco). Although designed for budget-oriented customers, Kymco marketed it as a quality-built bike. Released for the 2009 model year, the 2009 Agility is available as two versions: the Agility 50 and the Agility 125.

The two versions of the 2009 Kymco Agility are named after the displacement of their respective engines, each of which is a 4-stroke single-cylinder unit. The Agility 50 engine has a displacement of 49 cubic centimeters (cc), which is rounded up to 50. The one on the Agility 125 is measured at 125 cc. Thus the Agility 50 and Agility 125 are classified as 50cc scooter and 125cc scooter, respectively.

Kymco puts an air cooler on each 2009 Agility engine for cooling down the unit’s hot parts. This prevents the engine from overheating and consequent malfunction. Integrated to the bike’s powertrain are an electric kick-starter and Keihin carburetor for a quick start-up of the engine; this is especially helpful during cold-weather months. Also included is a muffler with exhaust catalyst technology to reduce air pollution and meet emission standards. The bore and stroke of the engine is 1.54 by 1.63 inches (39 by 41.4 millimeters) on the Agility 50 and 2.06 by 2.28 inches (52.4 by 57.8 millimeters) on the Agility 125.

Each 2009 Kymco Agility engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission, also referred to as a CVT. This type of transmission is designed to shift through an unlimited number of effective gear ratios: a feature that sets it apart from other types of gearboxes. This unique ability enables the engine to run more efficiently and provide enhanced fuel efficiency. Although the Agility 50 and Agility 125 share the same peak fuel capacity, at 1.3 gallons (4.9 liters), they differ in terms of fuel efficiency. The Agility 50, which has the smaller engine, can offer up to 98 miles per gallon (mpg) in combined fuel efficiency. The Agility 125, which has the larger engine, is less fuel efficient, with a combined fuel economy of 75 mpg.

The 2009 Kymco Agility is available as a red, blue, or silver scooter. Each bike uses or provides halogen headlights for exterior lighting; rearview mirrors for enhanced visibility; exhaust guard for protection from the exhaust heat; and rear rack, under-seat, and helmet storage. A speedometer, odometer, and fuel level indicator are included on the Agility analog dashboard. For seating, Kymco provides a one-piece vinyl seat big enough for two people: the driver and a passenger. The bike uses a steel frame covered with plastic for a sturdy build, and its braking consists of a front disc brake and rear drum brake. Each 2009 Agility rides on 12-inch aluminum wheels fitted with tubed tires.

Each 2009 Kymco Agility measures around 72 inches in length and 27 inches in width, with a wheelbase of approximately 44.5 inches. Kymco adjusts the seat at a height of around 31 inches. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 50cc version of the 2009 Kymco Agility is $1,599. The MSRP for the 125cc version is $400 higher: at $1,999.
