2009 Kawasaki KX 65 Monster Energy

Intro

The KX series of dirt bikes by Kawasaki ranges from its KX 65 youth model, to the track powerhouse KX 450 Monster Energy edition. Each bike has been overhauled, yet remains as capable and strong in the dirt as every loyal Kawasaki fan will remember. The dramatic changes made in the 2009 Kawasaki KX 450F help solidify its high-tech racetrack domination.

The engine of the 2009 Kawasaki KX 450F is an all-new liquid-cooled, four-stroke single with dual overhead camshafts and four valve cylinder heads. It is smaller and lighter than previous years, with revamped intake and exhaust ports, including all valves being comprised of titanium. The 449cc engine boasts digital ignition with K-TRIC throttle position sensor, and the compression ratio goes from 12:1 to 12.5:1. With a curb weight of only 247.2 pounds, the 53.92 horsepower engine is engineered for wide-open speed and torque.

Kawasaki has engineered the 2009 KX 450F to be as light as possible, so the electronic fuel injection operates without a battery. The 43mm Keihin throttle body gets its energy from the electricity generated by the kick starter. The five-speed manual transmission features a lightweight yet extremely durable chain drive. The five-speed transmission uses a wet multi-disc manual clutch for lightning quick and smooth shifting.

Big airs and taming bumps is the forte of the Kawasaki KX series. The superstar KX450F features a 47mm inverted Showa twin-chamber telescopic fork, with 16-way compression and rebound damping. Kawasaki has taken great efforts to reduce friction in the fork by employing the Kashima coating on the inside of the fork and its Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating on the outer surface of the inner fork tubes. The front end allows 12.4 inches of wheel travel, while the rear end features 12.2 inches of wheel travel. In the back, Kawasaki gives the KX450F its UNI-TRAK linkage system, and a Showa shock with 13-way low-speed and stepless high-speed compression damping, 17-way rebound damping, and fully adjustable spring preload.

The Kawasaki KX450F features aluminum spoke laced wheels measuring 21 inches in the front and 19 inches in the rear. Rolling on tubed rubber tires featuring an ultra-aggressive tread pattern, the KX is a real master in the dirt.

This bike is built to move forward quickly under stress, but there always comes a time to slow things down. Kawasaki uses a 250mm front disc brake and a 240mm rear disc brake to handle controlling the forward momentum. Although basic, this brake system is powerful and effective; the rider should have full confidence in the saddle. The seat height of 38 inches and 50mm foot pegs place the rider in an aggressive and stable position to be able to slay the track.

Underneath, the 2009 Kawasaki KX450F is all power and performance, however, on the outside, the Monster Energy Edition shines in all black and green styling. The black bodywork and wheels are offset by the green hubs and silver frame. An aggressive Monster Energy graphics package completes the look.
