2009 Big Bear Choppers Miss Behavin Base

Intro

A custom-styled production cruiser, Big Bear Choppers’ Miss Behavin was introduced in 2008 and carried over for 2009. The Southern California-based company designed Miss Behavin specifically for women motorcyclists, the idea being that women, who make up 10 percent of the motorcycle market, deserved a big chopper tailored just for them. Mona Alsop, wife of Big Bear Choppers founder and designer Kevin Alsop, came up with the idea, and her husband followed through on it.

With a 1,638.7cc, air-cooled, four-stroke V-twin engine, the cruiser makes no concessions to being a ""girl’s bike"" in terms of power. Like the Venom ProStreet, it uses the S & S 100 Smooth EFI Evolution engine, designed to reduce vibration and give the rider a smoother ride. It has an S & S Super E carburetor and an OHV-pushrod valve configuration, which requires a rider to put premium fuel in the 3.9-gallon stretched-teardrop-shaped gas tank (the same one used on Big Bear Choppers’ Sled ProStreet model). The engine is paired with a Baker chain-driven six-speed—with overdrive—manual transmission. Weighing in at 700 pounds dry—not exactly a light weight—this nine-foot-long bike has a telescopic front fork with a comparatively restrained 34-degree rake and twin-sided swing arm rear suspension. It rides on chromed wheels, with a fat 250mm tire in the rear.

The chassis, however, is built for a rider with a smaller frame. The seat is a low 20 inches; the pullback handlebars and foot controls are designed for a shorter rider. Some women, though, may find the grips and switches awkwardly placed or simply too big.

It came with same color options available for any other bike in the manufacturer’s stable—black cherry, candy-red metallic, charcoal metallic, electric blue, firecracker red, gloss red, orange pearl, satin or gloss black, and silver metallic—plus pearl white. A buyer ordered the color and graphic package of her choice. (Buyers also had the option of ordering unpainted parts and building their own bikes, which is now the only way to acquire a Big Bear Choppers bike.) Big Bear Choppers offered lots of chrome and lots of style for the Miss Behavin, just as it did for every other bike it produced before falling prey to the global recession and shuttering its production facilities. The company described the bike as nimble and balanced when the company released it, and in terms of style, it was true to its chopper origins.
