SYM Sanyang Industry Co., Ltd., a motorcycle and scooter manufacturer in Taiwan, released only one model for its SYM Jet Euro scooter for the 2008 model year. Officially called the 2008 SYM Jet Euro 50, the ride had a manufacturer""s suggested retail price of $2,298.
The 2008 SYM Jet Euro bears the ""50"" suffix because of its engine displacement, which is measured at 49.4 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 50 cc). The engine itself is a two-stroke air-cooled single-cylinder unit that generates 4.29 horsepower at 7,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 3.39 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 RPM. It has a bore and stroke of 1.54 x 1.63 inches (39 x 41.4 millimeters) and a 7.2-to-1 compression ratio. The engine has a reed valve train configuration, and it relies on a carburetor for fueling it.
Each 2008 SYM Jet Euro is connected with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which can choose from any of a number of gear ratios for the increased efficiency of the engine. This leads to improved fuel efficiency on the scooter. SYM provides a 1.7-gallon (6.3-liter) gas tank on each 2008 Jet Euro.
The 2008 SYM Jet Euro is made of a steel frame and padded with front and rear fenders, belt guard, exhaust guard and fork guards. A one-piece vinyl seat on the scooter is large enough for two people. Standard digital transmission on the ""08 Jet Euro consists of a tachometer, trip odometer, speedometer and fuel level warning gauge. Storage space or accessories consists of a rear rack and under-seat and lockable compartments. A halogen headlight and a pair of rearview mirrors are included for enhancing visual perception on the road. The 2008 Jet Euro is available in two color schemes: Black/Gray and Black/Orange.
Braking on the 2008 SYM Jet Euro consists of a 7.5-inch (190-mm) hydraulic disc at the front and a 4.3-inch (110-mm) drum at the back. Suspension consists of a telescopic fork and a twin-sided swing arm with shock absorber. Each 2008 Jet Euro rides on 12-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in tubed tires.
Each 2008 SYM Jet Euro has a length of 70.3 inches (1,786.1 mm), width of 26.8 inches (680 mm), height of 44.3 inches (1,125 mm) and wheelbase of 50.2 inches (1,275 mm). With its dry weight and payload capacity measured at 207.2 lbs. (94 kilograms) and 242.5 lbs. (110 kg), respectively, the 2008 Jet Euro""s gross vehicle weight rating – or GVWR – is estimated at 449.7 lbs. (204 kg).
The 2008 SYM Jet Euro is a decent scooter. It might not be the most powerful or best handling scooter in the world, particularly of the 2008 model year. However, its strengths lie in its lightweight form, reasonable amount of storage and Euro scooter-inspired styling.
