For the 2008 model year of the Suzuki DR-Z off-road bike – designed specifically for unpaved roads – Japanese manufacturer Suzuki Motor Corp. provided three models: DR-Z 70, DR-Z 125 and DR-Z 125L. The manufacturer's suggested retail prices for the 2008 DR-Z are $1,499 for the DR-Z 70, $2,399 for the DR-Z 125, and $2,599 for the DR-Z 125L.
The 2008 Suzuki DR-Z is powered by a four-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, with a 67-cubic centimeter (cc) displacement on the DR-Z 70 and 124 cc on the DR-Z 125 models. Two intake valves go on the engine's cylinder, and the entire unit is fueled by a carburetor. On the DR-Z 70, the engine is paired with a three-speed gearbox with a manual/automatic clutch. The DR-Z 125 models get a five-speed manual transmission instead. Peak fuel capacity is 0.8 gallons (3 liters) on the DR-Z 70, and 1.7 gallons (6.6 l) on the DR-Z 125 variants with a 0.4-gallon (1.7-l) reserve.
For braking, the DR-Z 70 and DR-Z 125 models of the 2008 Suzuki DR-Z use all-wheel drum brakes. However, the DR-Z 125L uses a disc brake at the front, thus enhancing its stopping power. The type and size of wheels vary from model to model. The DR-Z 70 uses 10-inch steel wheels. The DR-Z 125 rides on 17-inch front and 14-inch rear aluminum wheels. The DR-Z 125L also uses aluminum wheels, but they are 19 inches at the front and 16 inches at the back.
Built with a sturdy steel frame, the 2008 Suzuki DR-Z is available in Black or Champion Yellow color scheme, complete with a decal kit. In addition to being the smallest of the three variants, the DR-Z 70 is the lightest, with a dry weight of 116 lbs. (52.5 kilograms). The dry weight stats of the other models are 174 lbs. (79 kg) for the DR-Z 125 and 176 lbs. (80 kg) for the DR-Z 125L.
Like its immediate predecessors, the 2008 Suzuki DR-Z maintained the nameplate's reputation as an affordable and high-performing off-road bike. It is also a versatile brand, with the DR-Z 70 recommended for more casual riders and the DR-125 series more suitable for performance enthusiasts.
