2008 Honda Silver Wing ABS

Intro

The 2008 Honda Silver Wing is by definition a scooter in that it has a step-through style and a twist-and-go automatic transmission, but that’s where the similarities to the category end. The Honda Silver Wing is part of a small elite group of large, or maxi, scooters that are equipped with large engines and are built for long rides. Overall, the 2008 Honda Silver Wing has a lot more in common with a motorbike than most scooters on the road.

Where the 2008 Honda Silver Wing will appeal is in that it blends motorcycle performance with distinctive styling and an easier to use operation. The engine is a 582cc inline twin that produces 50 horsepower, coupled with the exclusive Honda V-matic transmission. The transmission found on the 2008 Honda Silver Wing is a continuously variable automatic system that is run using a belt-drive system. With a three-stage operation, the optimum amount of power is delivered at the twist of the throttle. The size of the engine and maneuverability mean that this is not just a scooter for around town, but that it has motorcycle-spec performance for riding on the highway.

A combined braking system provides plenty of stopping power for the 2008 Honda Silver Wing. An anti-lock braking system is available that works in conjunction with the combined braking system to offer additional steering and braking control for the rider. The large front and rear tires offer additional rider confidence by increasing traction of the scooter on the road. The exhaust system is lightweight and is quieter and produces fewer emissions than those of most motorcycles with a similar sized engine.

The 2008 Honda Silver Wing has a lightweight and strong steel frame that provides superb handling through the combination of rigidity and flexibility of the frame design. The maxi scooter was designed for cruising though and not high-performance handling, as seen by the overall design of the 2008 Honda Silver Wing. The wide and low padded seat provides plenty of space for both one-up and two-up riding. The five-position rider backrest can be adjusted through a two-inch range to provide additional comfort for riders of all heights. The seat opens at the front and is held open by a hydraulic damper to make loading and unloading of gear easier. Within the under seat storage, up to 55 liters of gear can be stored. It can be locked to provide additional security when the scooter is unmanned. Two small glove boxes are also included in the front of the 2008 Honda Silver Wing.

Floorboards are integrated in the 2008 Honda Silver Wing and have an upward angle to provide the optimal foot placement for riders while riding. Under the seat, the floorboards narrow so that foot placement on the ground when stopped is not hampered. The full-coverage body work and windscreen have been wind tunnel tested. They not only give the 2008 Honda Silver Wing its distinctive look, but they provide additional protection from the wind and also reduce wind noise when travelling.

For those riders looking for a scooter for longer rides, the comfort of the 2008 Honda Silver Wing will definitely appeal. The engine and transmission provide plenty of power for longer trips on the scooter, although the weight of the Silver Wing does mean that it has a much poorer gas mileage than many other scooters that are available.
