2008 Harley-Davidson Road King Base

Intro

Harley-Davidson redesigned its touring motorcycles, including the Road King, for the 2008 model year. New features include a bigger gas tank, Brembo brakes, and optional cruise control. Additionally, the 2008 Road King also got new handlebars and a fuel range indicator. The Road King came in four versions in 2008: Standard, Classic, Screamin’ Eagle, and models for emergency service personnel, including police and firefighters. The standard and classic models have 1584 cc engines, while the emergency service bikes have 1690 cc engines, and the Screamin’ Eagle boasts 1800 ccs of power. The Screamin’ Eagle was a limited edition for 2008 and was made at Harley’s York, Pennsylvania, factory. It was made by a team, rather than on an assembly line like the other Road Kings. Besides a bigger engine (Harley‘s largest displacement engine), the Screamin’ Eagle has custom paint and a lot more chrome than the other models. Most of the parts are custom made.

The 2008 Road King Classic showcases Harley’s classic retro looks. Wide whitewall tires circle laced, spoked wheels. Cruise control is standard as is a detachable windshield and security system. The standard Road King has a detachable windscreen and cast aluminum wheels. Saddle bags are standard on both models; riders say the bags do not hold very much. The Road Kings come in a variety of colors, depending on the model. The Classic is available in a special copper and black color-combination to commemorate the Wisconsin manufacturer’s 105th anniversary of making motorcycles. Riders say the bigger gas tank results in a less comfortable riding position as the handlebars are closer to the driver and the seat configuration was changed to accommodate the new gas tank.
