2008 Buell Blast

2008 Buell Blast Base

Intro

Street bike. Sports bike. Naked bike. Standard motorcycle. These are just a few of the terms used to describe the 2008 Buell Blast. Whatever term enthusiasts use, however, they agree it is a dependable motorcycle that makes a great motorcycle for beginning riders. It also makes a good commuting bike for experienced riders who save their more powerful bikes for weekend trips. One rider described the Blast as a ""go-everywhere"" motorcycle that is ""the equivalent of a two-wheeled econo-car."" At 492cc, it is definitely not the most powerful bike around, but when speed is not needed, riders say it is a good choice, especially for beginners. The Blast is easy to operate and ride. It has a starter that starts every time, contributing to its dependability factor. One factor that makes it a good choice for beginners is the bodywork that is made from Surlyn, a substance that is used on golf balls. What this means is if a rider drops his bike or is involved in another type of accident, the scratches can be buffed out. Beginners sometimes worry about hurting their new bikes.

The Buell Blast is based on a Harley-Davidson Sportster, which is understandable since Harley owns Buell Motorcycle. Harley modified the Sportster’s engine and frame for the Blast. Some riders have complained the 2008 Blast’s seat is too narrow for the Sportster frame, making riding uncomfortable. Riders also complain about the engine vibration on long rides, though they say this is not as bothersome on short hops. Because of this, the Blast has been called a ""thumper."" Riders like the 69 mpg the Blast gets in city riding. Riders, however, need to keep track of the mileage between fill-ups, as the Blast does not have a warning system when fuel levels hit low. The 2008 Blast comes in white and black.
