The 2008 Big Dog Pitbull is a motorcycle from United States manufacturer Big Dog Motorcycles (which went out of business in 2011). Released for the 2008 model year, the Pitbull was designed and marketed as a ""pro street-style bike"" and is placed as one of the upper-level Bog Dog offerings in the aforementioned category. Also, it shares many technical specifications with other Big Dog bikes of the 2008 model year, including the Ridgeback chopper. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the 2008 Pitbull is $27,500.
Each 2008 Big Dog Pitbull had a four-stroke two-cylinder engine referred to as a V-twin because of the cylinders converged in a ""V"" letter shape. The engine uses four-valves-per-cylinder configuration, and it displaces at 1,916 cubic centimeters. Other engine specs include a compression ratio of 9.6 to 1 and a bore and stroke of 4.13 by 4.38 inches.
Placed on each 2008 Big Dog Pitbull engine for prevention of overheating is an air cooler. An electric starter and a carburetor from S&S Cycle, Inc. are for rapid ignition. Each engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, which adds to the excitability of driving the bike.
For its braking and handling abilities, the 2008 Big Dog Pitbull has front- and rear-wheel disc brakes, which provide better braking than regular front-disc rear-drum layouts; and a telescopic-fork suspension in the front and rigid suspension at the rear. The aluminum wheels on the 2008 Pitbull are massive: a 23-inch one up front and a smaller 20-inch one at the back, both with tubeless tires.
With a curving design and a steel frame, the 2008 Big Dog Pitbull is meant to provide sturdiness and great aesthetic value. A one-piece leather seat sitting almost 26 inches high is big enough for the driver, even if it does not provide room for an extra person. A digital dashboard at the upper front of the vehicle includes a tachometer, speedometer, and trip odometer. Halogen headlights go on the 2008 Pitbull for exterior lighting, while rearview mirrors are on the bike for better visibility when driving.
The 2008 Big Dog Pitbull is 102 inches (or 8.5 feet) in length. Its wheelbase and ground clearance measure around 73 inches and 5 inches, respectively. Regarding dry weight, the 2008 Pitbull is 295 lbs. in the front and 396 at the back, adding up to 691 lbs. For its maximum operating weight, or gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), the bike consists of a front gross axle weight rating (GAWR) of 360 lbs. and rear GAWR of 725 lbs. to add up to 1,085 lbs.
