2007 United Motors SMF 200

Intro

United Motors, an international company with offices in Florida, imported and rebadged Chinese and South Korean motorcycles and scooters; some were made by Jincheng and Hyosung, but not all. United Motors’ American operations went out of business in 2010, though the company continued to distribute Korean and Chinese motorcycles in South America. The 2007 SMF, an on-off road sport bike, was introduced to the U.S. market in 2006 and carried over in 2007.

It has an air/oil-cooled, 196.4cc, single-cylinder four-stroke engine, with an overhead valve configuration—two valves per cylinder---a carburetor, a five-speed manual transmission, and a chain final drive. The electric starter is backed up with a kick starter, and an engine immobilizer is standard. The front suspension is a telescopic fork; the rear is a twin-sided swing arm with an adjustable spring preload shock. Stopping power is provided by a substantial 11.5-inch disc brake in front and a 10.5-inch disc in back.

The dirt bike weighs 275 pounds, with a wheelbase of 56 inches. Its vinyl one-piece seat is 35 inches high. The gas tank holds 2.64 gallons. Its only storage is a rear rack, which might come in handy if you planned to ride it on the street—but not in California, where the machine was never CARB-certified. The minimal instrument panel displays a speedometer and an odometer—no fuel gauge, tachometer, or temperature warnings.

An entry-level trail bike, it comes in four different colors, and the styling is sporty and contemporary. A front fender protects the rider from flying debris, and a fork guard protects the front suspension. Hand grips and guards are standard. It rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Dealer support, of course, is nonexistent, but because United Motors operated in the United States for 15 years and sold thousands of bikes and scooters, parts are available. The company’s bank-owned American assets were purchased by MRP, which has made owner’s manuals available online.
