2007 Triumph Sprint ST

Intro

In the few years since its 1999 debut, the Triumph Sprint – also known as the Triumph Sprint ST – went virtually unchanged. However, starting from 2005 – its manufacturer, British motorcycle company Triumph Motorcycles – Triumph began implementing significant tweaks, perhaps to keep the Sprint more competitive in the sport-touring bike market. (Indeed, the ""ST"" suffix stands for ""Sport Touring."") The 2007 edition of the Sprint became all the better for it.

Features that were once optional on the Sprint were now standard, starting with the 2007 model year. Each bike now got handlebar risers, as well as color-matched panniers for storage. Also, the 2007 Sprint has a variant that comes with a standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) for the motorcycle to maintain tractive control by preventing wheel lock-up while braking; it is referred to as the Triumph Sprint ST ABS. Thus the regular version has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $10,899, while customers would have to come up with $800 more to get the ABS version.

The engine that powers the 2007 Triumph Sprint is a four-stroke liquid-cooled three-cylinder of the horizontal in-line type and displaces at 1,050 cubic centimeters. It generates 125 horsepower at 9,100 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 76 pound-feet of torque at 7,500 RPM. Using a double overhead camshaft configuration, the engine has four intake valves on each of its three cylinders. The bore and stroke of the engine is 3.11 by 2.81 inches, and the compression ratio is 12 to 1. Each 2007 Triumph Sprint engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Dressed up with front and rear fenders and upper and lower fairing, the 2007 Triumph Sprint is made of aluminum, which makes it lighter than if it was using a steel frame but does not make it any less sturdy. Three color finishes are available with the bike: Caspian Blue, Phantom Black and Tornado Red. Its one-piece vinyl seat, set at a height of 31.7 inches, is big enough to accommodate a driver and a passenger. The digital dashboard at the front offers a tachometer, temperature warning and fuel level warning gauges, trip odometer, and speedometer. Storage consists of two side cases and a lockable area. Also included are a halogen headlight, rearview mirrors, and a windshield.

The suspension on the 2007 Triumph Sprint largely consists of a telescopic fork in the front and a single-sided swing arm at the back to ensure a smooth ride. Brakes consist of a 320-millimeter dual disc on the front 17-inch aluminum wheel and a smaller 255-millimeter single disc on the rear 17-inch aluminum wheel, providing braking prowess superior to traditional front-disc-brake rear-drum-brake set-ups.

Each 2007 Triumph Sprint measures 83.2 inches in length, 29.5 inches in width and 47.8 inches in height. The wheelbase is 57.4 inches, dry weight is 462 lbs. and peak fuel capacity is 5.5 gallons.

For a bike eventually unwilling to fall behind the times, the 2007 Triumph Sprint does a remarkable job. With the combination of advanced options like ABS, a few tweaks, and the preservation of its terrific powertrain, the 2007 Sprint makes a good choice for people who want to race or simply enjoy a cruise.
