2007 Tomberlin MadAss Scooter

Intro

The provocatively named 2007 Tomberlin MadAss appeared for the third model year of the nameplate. Its manufacturer, United States company Tomberlin, gave it a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1,599. Although not quite a “mad ass” with its moderate power and amount of accessories, the ‘07 MadAss makes a great choice for budget-oriented scooter customers.

Available as a black or silver bike, the 2007 Tomberlin MadAss has a length of 72 inches, width of around 31 inches and height of around 40 inches. Wheelbase is measured at around 49 inches. Weighing 187 inches, the ‘07 MadAss can handle up to a payload of 420 lbs.

Powering the 2007 Tomberlin MadAss is a 4-stroke single-cylinder engine with 2.7 horsepower. With two valves on the cylinder, the engine has a compression ratio of 10 to 1 and a bore and stroke of 1.54 by 1.63 inches. An electric kick-starter and 12-millimeter Mikuni carburetor ensure a comparatively fast start-up of the engine, especially during cold days. The engine is hooked with a four-speed manual transmission, efficient for excitability when driving.

With hydraulic disc brakes installed on the front and rear 16-inch aluminum wheels, the 20007 Tomberlin MadAss handles well: better than bikes with front-disc, rear-drum brakes. Its one-piece vinyl seat, set at around 34 inches, can handle up to the driver and one passenger. A digital dashboard is up front: with a clock, trip odometer and speedometer. Also featured are halogen headlights for exterior lighting, rearview mirrors for greater visibility when driving, and engine immobilizer for deterring bike thieves.

Overall, the 2007 Tomberlin MadAss is rather plain-looking, without the several types of storage common on most scooters. However, it has an imposing stripped-down feel, with front and rear fender accentuating the bike a bit. For people who are willing to sacrifice styling and power for economy and practicality, the '07 MadAss is a good choice.
