The Kymco Xciting marks the fourth model year for the high-level sport-oriented scooter that Taiwanese automaker Kwang Yang Motor Co, Ltd. (Kymco.) introduced in 2004. True to its name, the Xciting bike is geared towards customers who place a premium on aerodynamic styling and driving excitability. Two models exist for the ‘07 Xciting: the Xciting 250 and the Xciting 500.
The two models of the 2007 Kymco Xciting bike are named after their respective engine displacements. The Xciting 250 engine has a displacement of 249 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 250), while the engine on the Xciting 500 has a displacement of 498.5 cubic centimeters (rounded up to 500). Each model is split into two or three versions, based on subtle differences. There is an Ri version of the 250 and 500--250Ri and 500Ri, respectively--to set apart the Xciting scooters with the deep tinted windshields; the windshields on the regular ones (Base) are not tinted. A 500Ri ABS, named after its Bosch anti-lock braking system, is included.
The engine on each 2007 Kymco Xciting is a 4-stroke single-cylinder unit, with a liquid cooler for preventing overheating and two valves on the cylinder. The engine’s bore and stroke is 2.9 by 2.4 inches on the 250 and 3.63 by 2.9 on the 500. An electric starter and carburetor are implemented for the scooter to start quickly, especially in cold weather. The engine is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission, a type of gearbox distinctive in its ability to choose from an infinite number of gears, which makes the engine run more efficiently and provide enhanced fuel economy. Each ‘07 Xciting has a fuel tank that can hold up to 3.4 gallons.
The 2007 Kymco Xciting comes as a Blue, Charcoal, White or Orange bike: designed with sharp aggressive plastic covering over a steel frame for sturdiness and sport-oriented style. Standard on each vehicle--apart from the aforementioned windshield--are rearview mirrors for enhanced visibility; halogen lights for lighting; and under-seat, helmet and glove box/dash storage. Hydraulic disc brakes with dual piston calipers--dual discs on the 15-inch front and single disc on the 14-inch rear aluminum wheels--ensure superior braking over bikes with a front-disc rear-drum layout. The digital dashboard on each bike has a clock, speedometer, tachometer, trip odometer, and temperature warning and fuel level indicators. A one-piece vinyl seat, big enough to handle the driver and passenger, is set at 30 inches on the ‘07 Xciting.
Each 2007 Kymco Xciting bike has a length of 90 inches, width of 33 inches and height of 58 inches, with a wheelbase of 62 inches. The dry weight is 407 lbs. for the Xciting 250 model and 473 lbs. for the Xciting 500 model.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the 2007 Kymco Xciting are as follows: $4,899 for the Xciting 250 Base; $5,249 for the Xciting 250Ri; $6,299 for the Xciting 500 and 500Ri; and $6,799 for the Xciting 500Ri ABS.
