Sport motorcycles sacrifice amenities found on other models for speed. Japan manufacturer Suzuki began production of the GSX-R series sport bikes in the 1990s.

The 2006 Suzuki GSX-R 600 and GSX-R 1000 each earned an overall 4.5-star user rating. The GSX-R 600 was also given 4.5 stars for performance, quality and reliability, and value. The 2006 Suzuki GSX-R series is constructed from an aluminum frame with plastic body. 2006 Suzuki GSX-R models come standard with a four-stroke, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled horizontal engine and a six-speed constant mesh transmission.

The GSX-R 600 engine displacement to weight is 1.69 cc. and rear wheel 100.6 hp (75.0 kW). The GSX-R 1000 engine displacement to weight is 2.74 cc. at 178 hp (133 kW) at 11,000 RPM. The GSX-R 750 engine displacement to weight is 2.09 cc with torque of 64 lb-ft at 11,200 RPM. The 150 hp (110 kW) at 13,200 RPM power crank is put into motion by a digital/transistorized electric start.

The overall model dimensions of the 2006 Suzuki GSX-R 600 and 750 include a standard length of 80.3 in. (2040 mm), width of 28.1 in. (715 mm), and height of 44.7 in. (1125 mm). The GSX-R 1000 model is slightly different, with a length of 80 in. (2030 mm), width of 28 in. (710 mm), and height of 44.5 in. (1130 mm). Ground clearance is 5.1 in. (130 mm) on all models.

Digital instrumentation is standard on the 2006 GSX-R 600, 750, and 1000 models. Standard features include a speedometer, tachometer, trip odometer, clock, temperature warning and fuel warning light, and shift light. Other standard features include hand grips, driver/passenger pegs, exterior guards and covers, chain guard, front and rear fenders, lower fairing, spoiler, upper fairing, and kick stand. Lockable and under-seat storage is standard.
