The Suzuki motorcycle manufacturer introduced the Enduro street-legal, lightweight on-off road motorcycle leader near the turn of the 21st century. The Japanese manufacturer added lights, mirrors, a muffler, a horn, and a license plate holder to their traditional dirt bike model and created the DR-Z 400S on-off road motorcycle. The dual sport DR350 model (1990) was the predecessor to the DR-Z400 series. Although the DR-Z 400S is lightweight and closest to a pure dirt bike model that operates more comfortably off road on back trails and on two-track roads, it easily adapts to and functions on pavement.
The 2006 Suzuki DR-Z 400S Base model’s closet competition includes the Buell On-Off Road, KTM Supermoto, Honda On-Off Road, Aprilia On-Off Road, BMW On-Off Road, and Triumph On-Off Road models as well as the Suzuki Husqvarna and DR-Z 400SM On-Off Road models.
