2006 KTM 950 Supermoto Orange

Intro

KTM’s new 950 Supermoto motorcycle looks like a dirt bike but rides like a street bike. Introduced in 2006, the 950 Supermoto is a supersized Adventure, another popular KTM motorcycle. While the Adventure is meant to be taken both on- and off-road, the 950 Supermoto is designed specifically for paved roads. Many motorcyclists ride the 950 Supermoto on both types of roads, reporting it handles well on both. However, KTM cautions against taking it off-road. In the owner’s manual, the Austrian manufacturer calls the 950 Supermoto ""a state-of-the-art sport motorcycle"" that is made to be ridden only on paved roads and is ""not for use on race courses or off-road terrain."" The 950 Supermoto uses a modified Adventure frame made of chromium molybdenum, and borrows the shorter swing arm and smaller wheels from KTM‘s 990 Super Duke. The 950 Supermoto gets rave reviews, almost all five stars, from motorcycle journalists and owners alike in all areas but rider comfort. Unfortunately, the dirt-bike styled seat is just too uncomfortable for long-distance riding.

The 950 Supermoto can do a quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds and has a top speed of 137 mph, but riders report gas mileage is best when cruising along at 70 mph. This motorcycle gets between 36 and 42 mpg. While the 950 Supermoto handles well in city traffic, the gas mileage isn’t anything to write home about. Riders can drain the 4.62-gallon tank in around 100 miles. KTM offered two models in its traditional colors in 2006: 950 Supermoto Black and 950 Supermoto Orange.
