The Ducati Monster is the original naked bike. Introduced in the 1990s, the bike""s minimalistic style and rugged good looks won over a wide following of fans, and its status as a leader on the road lives on with the 2006 Ducati Monster family of bikes. Featuring an innovative design that has frequently been mimicked but never matched, the Ducati Monster combines the performance of a sportbike with a gritty, simplistic style that""s at once irresistible and impressive.
The 2006 Ducati Monster is available in no fewer than six sub-models, including the 620, 620 Dark, S2R, S2R Dark, S2R 1000, and S4R. With your choice of air-cooled or liquid-cooled, and two or four valve engines, there""s a Monster for just about everybody. All of the models feature Ducati""s derived trellis frame, fuel-injected desmodromic engines, premium braking and suspension systems, and an innovative anti-theft immobilizer that only allows the bike to be started using a special, microchip-integrated ignition key. The S4R is the only one to feature Ducati""s legendary Testastretta engine.
The 2006 Monster 620 has a six-speed gearbox with an APTC clutch that""s exclusive to Ducati. The clutch level pull is amazingly light and plays a valuable role in reducing abrupt downshifts. The smooth-shifting six-speed transmission ensures responsive acceleration, and immediate throttle response.
Suspension on the 2006 Ducati Monster is efficiently handled by the Marzocchi 43mm inverted forks on the front of the bike and progressive linkage with adjustable Sachs monoshock on the rear. Front wheel travel is a tight 5.1 inches, and rear wheel travel is 5.8 inches. Braking is equally effective, thanks to the Ducati Monster""s dual 300mm two-piston caliper brakes on the front and single 245mm two-piston caliper brake on the back.
Being a naked bike, the 2006 Ducati Monster has a surprisingly rich array of instruments included on the instrument panel. Featuring a speedometer, a rev counter, an LCD clock, and a host of warning lights and other bells and whistles, the bike has everything you need, smartly presented in a handsome analog/digital display.
Perhaps best of all, the 2006 Ducati Monster is a blank slate of a bike, fully customizable to allow your creativity to shine. Each Monster comes with a Ducati Performance Accessories catalogue, so owners can outfit their individual Monsters to their liking.
