2006 Big Dog Mastiff

2006 Big Dog Mastiff Base

The engineers at the Wichita, Kansas-based Big Dog Motorcycles bring back the pro sport Mastiff for 2006. True to the canine for which it’s named, the 2006 Big Dog Mastiff is a long, low, and powerful machine. An American classic chopper, this Pro Street style bike is not just all bark and no bite.

Big Dog Motorcycles has an intimate relationship with S&S, spanning the history of the company. The S&S-engineered 1,915 cc overhead-valve, air-cooled, 45-degree V-Twin engine is well-balanced and athletic, featuring a proprietary cam design, a Super G carburetor, and dual-purpose fins that both aid in cooling, and reduce high frequency engine noise. The award-winning Baker Balance Drive System not only harnesses the tremendous power of the S&S engine, but also does so with strength and durability, due to 14mm teeth, and a twelve plate clutch design. The 2.4-inch wide open belt and stainless steel pulleys will definitely draw attention, while at the same time controlling the powertrain with ease.

A state-of-the-art Baker Right Side Drive (RSD) six-speed manual transmission is used on conjunction with the beefy tires to perfectly balance out the Big Dog Mastiff, and to further improve handling, giving the rider excellent control and road feel. The transmission was designed to balance the effect of running super wide rear tires, and to work with mechanical or hydraulic clutch lever assemblies, chain or belt secondary drive. In a word, Baker epitomizes versatility.

From the stretched one-piece 4.6-gallon fuel tank, to the 39-degree raked neck with the 41mm telescopic fork, the 2006 Big Dog Mastiff looks great, but appearance is only part of the equation. The rear twin-sided swing arm attached to the two manually-adjustable hidden shock absorbers keeps the meaty rubber to the road, and smoothens out the bumps. Tubeless rubber is wrapped around Avon polished chrome billet aluminum wheels, with the front measuring 21 inches, while the beefy 300mm rear tire is 18 inches in diameter. Riders will also really appreciate the softtail suspension over the course of long road trips.

The Big Dog Mastiff""s classic instruments include the basic speedometer, tachometer, and trip odometer in a combined analog/digital display. The layout is perfectly balanced and styled with ample chrome across the entire cockpit. Big Dog offers a wide array of different custom paint options, all of which are sure to turn heads.

On the Big Dog Mastiff, front and rear disc brakes handle the stopping power, making this 680-pound beast handle like a much smaller bike. Cornering is smooth and nimble, thanks to the in-house manufactured steel frame with six inches of backbone stretch, putting the rider in perfect position to lean and grip the bike into and out of twisty and winding roads.

Small details sometimes count for a lot, like the rear-mounted kickstand for better cornering clearance, the billet hand controls with internal brake master cylinder, and the disabling starter button that prevents unwanted electronic starter engagement. While the 2006 Mastiff looks like bike show quality in stock condition, Big Dog owners can customize the bike according to their individual needs and desires. For 2006, Big Dog Motorcycles have really set a high benchmark with bikes such as the newly redesigned Mastiff.
