2006 Aprilia SR 50 R Fuel Injected

Intro

If you seek economical transportation, there are many options. However, few choices are more satisfying than the joy of riding on a well-built 50cc scooter. For 2006, Aprilia took some of the best design features from its RSV 1000 R Factory superbike, and adopted them for a street scooter, the SR 50.

The Aprilia SR 50 runs the Piaggio Hi-PER2 motor, a liquid-cooled, horizontal, single-cylinder, two-stroke engine with 49cc of displacement. With a curb weight of only 234 pounds, the Aprilia SR 50 has the power to reach a top speed of 60 miles per hour quickly for a scooter. More than sufficient for city streets, the SR 50 exudes a combination of competence and metropolitan style. Despite the powerful performance of the Aprilia SR 50, fuel economy is notably good. In the city, the SR 50 gets 100 miles per gallon, while on the highway, one can expect to travel 120 miles per gallon. The fuel cell of the Aprilia SR 50 holds 6.5 liters (or 1.85 gallons), giving it good range for a scooter.

The 2006 Aprilia SR 50 uses a smooth, twist-and-go, continuously variable transmission (CVT), with a torque server to translate the power of the Piaggio Hi-PER2 into forward motion. Aided by an automatic centrifugal dry clutch, the rider does not have to worry about shifting.

Bumps and uneven road conditions are smoothed out by a solid suspension system on the Aprilia SR 50. The hydraulic fork up front has 90mm of wheel travel, allowing the rider to comfortably control the scooter. The rear suspension has 70mm of wheel travel, with the engine unit acting as a swing arm. Radial Silent Block mountings attach the rear suspension to the frame.

Aprilia puts its many years of world championship racing experience into the SR 50’s braking system. Up front, a 190mm stainless steel disc racing caliper with twin opposed 32mm pistons slows things down. The rear braking is handled by a 190mm stainless steel disc racing caliper, with twin opposed 30mm pistons.

Rubber meets the road via 13-inch, five-spoke, light alloy wheels wrapped by tubeless 13-inch rubber tires. The Aprilia SR50’s racing heritage becomes obvious in the tread pattern deployed in the tires, giving great handling and grip characteristics.

Aprilia offers many accessories to customize the 2006 SR 50. You can choose between a large windshield and a smaller sports windshield. Aerodynamics can be improved by adding the front footrest spoilers, and storage can be expanded by 28 liters with the addition of the Aprilia New Concept ""top box."" Suspension can be further enhanced with the racing monoshock in the rear.

The 2006 Aprilia SR 50 is available in either Graphite Grey or Tulip Red. No matter which color you choose, this scooter is pure track style. From the headlight, to the dynamic instrument cluster, to the twin taillights, this bike screams performance, and delivers. It’s no surprise that the SR 50 is used by the Aprilia Racing Team for transportation from the pit to the paddock. While riding a scooter cannot be compared to racing a world class superbike, Aprilia has done a nice job of blurring the lines.
