2005 Suzuki V-Strom 650

The 2005 Suzuki DL650—it is not a V-Storm, rather a V-Strom—the German word suggesting a flowing stream, or small body of moving water. This appropriately named, dual-sport motorcycle is liquid smooth on the roads, and presents riders with great versatility for preferred riding styles, and two-wheeled adventures.

Built on the same power platform as the 2004 Suzuki DL650—a tuned version of the Suzuki SV650 engine—the 2005 Suzuki V-Strom is capable of running hard on a 645cc, liquid cooled, 90 degree V-Twin and DOHC with four valves per cylinder. The fuel injection system makes for smooth fuel delivery, and an incredibly responsive throttle. Riders will love the control, as well as the impressive fuel economy. The 2005 Suzuki V-Strom tested at over 54 mpg average, and once the engine has been gently worked through its initial break-in period, owners can expect close to 60 mpg when cruising easy at highway speeds.

For more experienced riders who enjoy what they see when looking at the V-Strom, Suzuki also presents a V-Strom 1000 or DL1000, based on a beefed-up, 996cc version of the 90 degree V-Twin. The V-Strom 1000 is most often used as a sport-touring model, and accessorized with everything from panniers, to top racks and cases for weekend jaunts, and long journeys. During the first decade of the 21st century, Suzuki was under a joint research and development contract with Kawasaki. The DL1000 was offered as a Kawasaki KLV1000 in many European markets, though everything remained identical in terms of aesthetic design and performance.

Considering the entry level Suzuki V-Strom 650, the finely tuned suspension, and dual hydraulic disc brakes on the front end create an impressive handling motorcycle that will surprise veteran riders, and spoil beginners who learn to ride in its saddle. In terms of cornering, braking, quick-maneuvering capability, and working through thick traffic experienced on daily commutes, the 2005 V-Strom will provide riders with sheer capability. It is as practical to ride as it is fun, and as quick and powerful as it is efficient.

The 2005 Suzuki V-Strom boasts the aesthetics of a standard motorcycle. It possesses front windscreen fairing, which flows seamlessly into the tank, seat and rear tail fairing, without the full fairing of most sport bikes. (Many enthusiasts refer to these models as being ""half naked."") The two-up seat suggests comfortable sport touring, offering plenty of room and comfort to the operator and passenger. The front windshield provides a more enjoyable ride at high speeds, while it also keeps road gunk and bugs out of the rider's face.

The 2005 V-Strom 650 is an excellent first ride for those interested in owning something sporty, without sacrificing riding comfort for enhanced performance. The power platform is more than sufficient for getting up to speed quickly, and for cruising at highway speeds. For experienced riders looking for ample power matched with incredible fuel economy, look no further than the Suzuki V-Strom 650.

New For 2005
  • The 2005 production year served as the second for the popular Suzuki V-Strom. The only addition was a headlight interruption during starting, reducing battery stress.
