2005 Suzuki DR-Z 400S Base

Intro

The 2005 Suzuki DR-Z 400S is regularly considered one of the leading dual-purpose bikes in the industry, thanks to its expert handling of both on- and off-road surfaces, its feature-rich instrument panel, its aesthetically-pleasing design, and its innovative mechanics. It's also one of the very few options available for riders looking for a comfortable mid-range bike between the usual 250cc and 650cc offerings.

The Suzuki DR-Z 400S is powered by a surprisingly strong liquid-cooled, DOHC, 398cc engine. Its compact four-cylinder head boasts large 36mm intakes and 29mm exhaust valves, with a shim-under-bucket valve adjustment system. The bike also includes an automatic decompression system and a digital CDI ignition that helps ensure reliable and quick starts every time, and in all types of weather conditions. The 400S is equipped with a Mikuni BSR36 CV-type carburetor that's fed by six-liter airbox. This produces smooth and instantaneous throttle response for accurate acceleration, and excellent power delivery.

The Suzuki DR-Z 400S has a chrome-moly steel frame that is designed for optimum strength, while keeping the bike's weight (291 lbs.) as light as possible. Its bolt-on sub-frame is aluminum, which helps reduce its weight even further, while making maintenance easier to manage. Visually, the 2005 Suzuki DR-Z 400S enjoys a beautifully slim profile that's accentuated through the seamless transitions between the tank, the seat, and the bodywork.

The suspension system on the Suzuki DR-Z 400S is perfectly tuned for handling any type of riding experience. It features a 49mm cartridge-style front fork with adjustable compression and rebound damping, and a fully-adjustable rear shock with a high/low speed compression damping adjuster. Meanwhile, braking is provided by a 250mm hydraulic disc with two-piston caliper on the front wheel, and a single-piston caliper 220mm disc brake on the rear.

The 2005 Suzuki DR-Z 400S is a fantastic bike for every type of riding experience. Its adjustable suspension allows you to make the adjustments necessary for when you're riding the bumpy trails, while its bright 55/60 watt headlight, compact brake light, rubber-mounted turn signals, and horn make it street-legal for a fun and fuel-efficient ride to work. To top off this impressive mid-range dual-purpose star is its generous 2.6 gallon fuel tank and comfortable 36.8 inch seat height, both of which enable you to enjoy countless hours riding this bike to your heart's content.
