2005 Piaggio BV 200

Intro

Piaggio USA, Inc. is a subsidiary of Piaggio & C. S.p.A., based in Pontedera, Italy. Since 1884, the Piaggio name has stood for innovation, quality, and superior performance. The Company's rich history, which includes ship outfitting, railway construction, and aviation, gave way to developing practical and accessible means of transportation for post-war Italy when the first Vespa® motor scooter was designed in 1946. In 2004, Piaggio began selling scooters in North America, with the Beverly, or BV 200 scooter. The Piaggio BV 500 was new for 2005.

The 2005 Piaggio BV 200 uses a 198cc version of the LEADER motor, which is used by Vespa. The single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine features air cooling, and electric starting. Both scooters feature electronic fuel injection in the fuel delivery system. With 21 horsepower, the BV 200 scooter is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 100mph. The BV 500 has a liquid cooled 492cc engine, which creates 39 horsepower, making travel at highway speeds enjoyable. With the 2.6 gallon fuel tank and decent fuel economy, the BV 200 has great range. The 3.5 gallon fuel cell of the BV 500 gives the larger bike decent travelling range, as well. The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) handles the task of putting all available horsepower to the road.

The suspension system of the 2005 Piaggio BV 200 is a basic, yet capable affair. The telescopic front fork allows four inches of wheel travel, while the rear end features dual pre-load adjustable shocks that allow for 3.5 inches of wheel travel. The Beverly 200 features 16 inch wheels for increased stability, and high speed performance. In the BV 200, the front wheel is wrapped in 110/70 size rubber, while the rear wheel gets a 140/70 tire. The BV 500 features a 150/70-14 rear tire.

Whether decelerating from highway speeds, or negotiating stop-and-go urban traffic, the Beverly series is highlighted by a very capable braking system. The BV 200 features a single 260mm dual piston disc brake in the front, and a 260mm single disc brake in the rear. The BV 500 uses twin 260mm dual piston discs in front, and a 240mm single disc dual piston brake. The larger BV 500 is excellent for highway travel, able to pass automobiles, and handle cornering at highway speeds.

The saddle of the 2005 Piaggio BV 200 features a 31-inch seat height and underseat storage, while the BV 500 provides slightly lower seating at 30.5 inches, while still providing ample underseat storage. Both scooters feature modestly sized windscreens, and additional storage capacity found in the glovebox area. The Beverly scooters give us additional real world livability, with the inclusion of the 12 volt accessory socket under the seat, which makes charging a cell phone or other computer device a snap. Piaggio offers the Beverly line in many vibrant colors. The BV 200 and BV 500 are available in Midnight Blue, Cortina Gray, Graphite Black, and Sienna Ivory.

Europe's largest manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles, Piaggio is known throughout the world for their superior technology, craftsmanship, and design. Piaggio's stylish and fuel-efficient line of Beverly scooters is both practical, and luxurious.
