2005 KTM MXC 525

Intro

The 2005 KTM MXC was ones of the off-road bikes from Austrian motorcycle company KTM during the 2005 model year. There are four models available for the 2005 KTM MXC: the MXC 300, MXC 450, MXC 525 and MXC 525 Racing. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices were $6,398, $7,048, $7,348 and $7,548, respectively. The MXC was placed at a higher-level than the EXC, which shares similar components; the KTC models have larger displacement engines.

The 2005 KTM MXC uses a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The MXC 300 model has a two-stroke version, while the others use a four-stroke unit. Each MXC model is named after its engine displacement, which is represented – in cubic centimeters (cc) – by a rounded-up numerical estimation. The MXC 300’s engine displaces at 293 cc, the MXC 450’s engine displaces at 447.9 cc and the MXC 525 models use an engine that displaces at 510.4 cc. The engine on the MXC 300 uses a reed intake valve configuration, while the others use a single overhead camshaft valve train. (Two valves go on each engine cylinder.)

Fueled by a Keihin carburetor – which is measured at 36 millimeters (mm) for the MXC 300 and 39 millimeters for the others – the engine is mated to a manual transmission. The one on the MXC 300 is a five-speed; the others use a six-speed. The MXC 300 has a kick starter for engine ignition; KTM added a more convenient electrical starter on the other models. The MXC 450 and MXC 525 have the largest gas tank, with a peak capacity of 3.4 gallons (13 liters). The MXC 300 has a middling 2.8-gallon (10.5-liter) gas tank, while the MXC 525 has the smallest peak fuel capacity, at 2.1 gallons (8 liters).

For stopping power, each 2005 KTM MXC uses an all-wheel Brembo® disc braking system. It consists of a 10.2-inch (260-mm) disc at the front; and a smaller, 8.7-inch (220-mm) disc at the back. The suspension on the bike consists of a 1.9-inch (48-mm) inverted fork and a twin-sided aluminum WP swing arm with rear shock absorber. The 2005 MXC rides on front 21-inch and rear 18-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires.

Like several other KTM bikes, the 2005 KTM MXC uses a chromium-molybdenum frame for keeping the bike light yet sturdy. The frame is covered with plastic components that include front and rear fenders, heel guards and fork guards. The bike was then finished off with an orange color scheme and decal kit. On top of the bike is a one-piece vinyl seat for the driver; it is set at a height of 36.4 inches (925 mm). A kick stand at the bottom serves as its parking device.

The wheelbase on the MXC 300 is measured at 58.1 inches (1,475 mm); it is 58.3 inches (1,481 mm) on the other models. The dry weight for the 2005 KTM MXC is 221.8 lbs. (100.6 kilograms) for the MXC 200, 247.4 lbs. (112.2 kg) for the MXC 450 and 248.1 lbs. (112.5 kg) for the MXC 525 Series.
